Intermediate (IM) English requires students to develop the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and accurately, with a sense of purpose and audience, when speaking and writing. In addition, it requires them to develop the skills to listen to and understand spoken English, and to read and understand different text types while evaluating and analysing the writer’s intentions.

The study area IM English is informed by the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
This syllabus assumes proficiency in English Language at SEC level. It aims to consolidate knowledge, skills and competences, and to extend them to include more advanced concepts, which are dealt with in a broad manner. Most of these new concepts are included to provide a general and coherent view of the subject.
The study area is based on learning outcomes that will equip students with the writing, reading and communication skills required to achieve academic success. In general, it aims to meet the need to be proficient in English in order to be competitive in a globalised economic environment.
These programmes also embed learning outcomes related to cross-curricular themes, namely digital literacy, diversity, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, sustainable development, learning to learn and cooperative learning and literacy. In this way, students will be fully equipped with the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values needed for further learning, work and life.
