The study area SEC History is informed by the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). GSCE History is informed by Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
The syllabus helps students towards an understanding of the development over time of social and cultural values. Furthermore, it promotes an understanding of the nature of cause and consequence, continuity and change, similarity and difference, sequence and chronology and empathy in history, and develops essential historical skills when analysing and interpreting primary and secondary sources. It also communicates history, using the appropriate use of historical terms, in written and oral form.
At the end of the programme, the student will be able to:
GSCE/SEC History will cover all of the subject’s core syllabus (Analysing and interpreting historical evidence, European and International History, Maltese History, and Maltese and European History) including: Analysing and interpreting historical evidence, Early Modern Europe (1450-1600), Revolutions and Nationalism in Europe (1789-1914), Europe since 1945, Malta under the rule of the Order of St John (1565-1798), The French the British Period (1798-1921), Malta’s social and economic development since 1800, Malta’s political and constitutional development (1921-2004), and Europe and Malta in the Two World.
